This leisurely day tour spends four hours at New Norcia and includes a detailed tour with a local guide, lunch at the majestic Hotel plus entry to the Museum, Art Gallery and Gift Shop plus a relaxing country drive through the Chittering Valley.
Journey north via the vineyards of the Swan Valley and the little country town of Bindoon, where a stop is made for morning tea before continuing on to Australia's only Benedictine township. Founded in 1846 by Dom Rosendo Salvado, a Spanish Benedictine monk, New Norcia is still an active monastic community.
Join a local guide for a leisurely tour of the monastery interior and other buildings of interest including the Marian Shrine, Abbey Church and the chapels of the former residential colleges of St Ildephonsus and St Gertrude with their distinctive Spanish architecture, exquisite interior woodwork and frescoes.
After lunch at the New Norcia Hotel, there is plenty of time to visit the Museum and Art Gallery which houses the most amazing collection of paintings by Spanish and Italian masters, priceless manuscripts and religious artifacts or be tempted by the Gift Shop displays of New Norcia bread, nut cake, olive oil products and wines. Return to Perth via the pretty, rolling countryside of the Chittering Valley.
